The Alabama Solution
In 2019, filmmakers Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman (HBO's The Jinx) visit a prison where incarcerated men whisper a message: terrible things are going on and kept secret. This sparks an immersive six-year investigation into one of the nation's deadliest prison systems. Through unprecedented access and video shot on contraband cell phones, we learn of a suspicious death, revealing it isn't an isolated incident and the official version seems far from the truth. A shocking story of brutality, corruption, and a system in collapse. The Alabama Solution shines a light on inmates fighting for survival who embark on a non-violent campaign of resistance. Beyond Alabama, it exposes a national crisis that is an urgent warning about the true costs of mass incarceration.
