Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-08-22

This page describes what Entertainment Owl actually collects and why, in plain terms. The quiz itself works without an account or any personal information — everything below only applies once you sign in, save a watchlist item, opt in to updates, or share your picks.

What we collect

If you sign in. Sign-in is via Google (through Supabase Auth). We receive your email address and basic profile info Google provides for authentication. We don’t see or store your Google password.

Your watchlist. If you save a title, we store which title, its type (movie/series), and whether you’ve marked it watched, tied to your account.

Quiz answers and results — only if you share them. Taking the quiz itself doesn’t send anything to our servers beyond the request needed to generate your recommendations. If you tap “Share my picks,” we store that quiz profile and result set so the share link works, under a random id — not tied to your account or identity.

Email updates (opt-in). If you enter your email to get updates, we store that address and your selected region for that purpose. This is separate from Google sign-in and is never required to use the site.

Your region and in-progress quiz answers, stored only in your browser. Your US/India region choice and the results of a completed quiz are kept in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers them between visits — we don’t receive or store these ourselves.

What we don’t do

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers to run the site, each only for what’s necessary to provide that part of the service:

Movie/series data itself (titles, streaming availability, cast, ratings) comes from the Streaming Availability API by Movie of the Night and TheTVDB — these are sources for catalog content, not places your personal data goes.

How long we keep it

Account and watchlist data is kept as long as your account exists. A shared quiz-results link is kept indefinitely so the link keeps working, but it isn’t linked back to who created it.

Your choices

You can sign out at any time, and clearing your browser’s site data removes your locally stored region/quiz-result preferences. To request that we delete your account and associated data, or to ask what we hold about you, email us — there’s no self-serve delete button yet, so this goes through a person.

Children

Entertainment Owl includes a “kid-safe” filtering option for choosing content appropriate for children to watch, but the site itself is not directed at children and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your region).

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the effective date above. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the update.
